About Our Family Research

CURRENTLY RESEARCHING THE FOLLOWING ANCESTORS:

1. THOMAS JEFFERSON HUGHES:

TJH died in Vernon Parish, LA 1910. Records showing his place of birth are contradictory. He may have been born in Mississippi or South Carolina, 1820-1833. One record indicates he was born in COPIAH County, MS. A "ton" of research in Copiah Co. failed to confirm that. In any case he enlisted in the Confederate Army in Little Rock AR in Aug. 1861. Reported to have been farming in St. Francis Co. AR prior to then. St Francis Co. AR is a burned records county and no record of TJ having been there has been found. TJ had a daughter, Lucy, born in Louisiana, in 1862 from a possible FIRST marriage.

SECOND MARRIAGE was to Rachel Foster Baily in South Central LA in 1867. They had 8 children in Rapides and Vernon Parish. Children by SECOND MARRIAGE were:

Frances who m. Jesse Musselwhite; William Preston who m. Mary Ella Sirman; Thomas E.who married Sophronia Odom; Dr. Arthur Monroe; James Russell who m. Lucretia Belvin and Maggie who m. Mid Farris.

2. DAVID PARKER, born circa 1801 Anderson Co. SC The 1850 De Kalb Co. GA census listed David's family as follows:

David Parker 49 M SC
Elizabeth 48 F SC
Alexander 28 M SC
Rosa A./Rosannah 22 F SC
James 21 M SC
William A.S. 17 M GA
LEONIDAS 13 M GA
Elizabeth 8 F GA
Mary A. 4 F GA

Davids first wife was reported to have been been Mary Ann Stephenson, who died when Leonidas was an infant.

3. EDWARD SIRMAN: Born in NC circa 1740. Several SIRMAN/SIRMONS families lived in Beaufort, Hyde, Pitt and Dobbs Counties NC.in the 1700's. Edward and son Josiah migrated to GA; His son, Jonathan, migrated to Barnwell District SC, thence to MS where he died after 1830. I AM ONLY INTERESTED IN FINDING EDWARD'S PARENTS, SIBLINGS AND COUSINS. WE ARE TRYING TO LINK THESE SIRMAN/SIRMON ANCESTORS BACK TO THE UK FROM WHENCE WE BELIEVE THEY CAME.

Is there a connection with Edward Sermon who was in the MD/VA area about 1652-1676, and married Ann Frowin? From whom did these NC SIRMON/SIRMAN families descend?

I will exchange research, pay postage and copy costs if your S*RM*N research is in the 1652-1780 era.
