Notes for Karl Friedrich Buschmann: Do not have the source for the following:
Charles Fredrick Bushman was the son of Harm Klassen Bushmann and Gretchen Gertie Gers. He was the fourth in a family of seven children. He was born in Aurich Osfreisland, Germany coming to the United States in 1891 and leaving Germany with his parents. He told how most of the people on the ship coming over got sick; but he kept doing odd jobs like peeling potatoes and etc. and got along fine. Charlie was married to Johanna Jennie Kampmeir Seeden. They worked out for a while, then they made their home on a farm two miles south of Lake City, Iowa. After six years, they lived on a farm near Lanesboro, Iowa for one year. Lastly, he rented a 240 acre farm 1/2 mile south and two miles east of Glidden, Iowa which was owned by a man named Louis Colehower. There he lived with his large family for 52 years and died on the same farm never having owned an acre of it. Charlie was a good horseman and enjoyed them. At that time what they called Gypsies would come around ever so often and they would trade horses and they would also bed Charlie's mares. He also raised a lot of Geese and ducks. They would set aside a certain day to dress these ducks and geese as it would take a whole day. When they dressed them they would bleed them through the mouth and then hang them by the feet on a clothes line. After killing them and they were finished bleeding they would scald them in a boiler of hot water so they could take the feather off, but leave the heads on. Then they packed them in wooden barrels and shipped them by train to Chicago. They used the feathers after they were steam cleaned to make their own pillows and feather ticks for the beds.
Fred Seeden and Gretchen Seeden were witnesses to their Marriage.
