The following was written by Louise Prill kluegel of Glidden, Iowa, in about 1943; Richard Seeden Grandfather Seeden (mother's Parents) Grandmother and Grandfather Seeden were natives of Hamburg, Germany. They came to the United States to escape the hardships which they had to endure in that country. Being of the unwealthy class of people at that time their lives were very unhappy. Grandfather had to go from place to place working extremely hard to make a living, walking miles to and from his work, eating the foods which they could manage to scrape together. The children likewise had to work very hard with no future outlook. As far as I have been able to trace they had five sons and four daughters, namely; Margaret, who married Mike Heuton, was born Sept. 8, 1856; Fred, who married Ida Heuton, was born Oct 8 1861; Dick, who married Anna Bushman, was born ______, Recka (my mother) married Henry Prill, born Nov. 9, 1868. Jennie, who married Charles Bushman was born _______. Three sons and one daughter died in Germany. Grandfather Seeden was never so very prosperous because he did not have a chance in Germany and after coming to this country it seems that he was in debt for the transportation which carried them across and was getting too old for much hard work. Mother has said that although he did not possess great wealth, his love and kindness were worth hundredfold that of wealth. She also has told that he was of a quiet and serene temperament. Grandfather and Grandmother Seeden are buried at the west end of the Westlawn cemetery at Glidden, Iowa.
