OBITUARIES
JOHN J. SCHAFER Funeral services were held last Sunday afternoon for John J. Schafer, 69, of Carroll, a former Glidden resident, who died last Thursday at St. Anthony Regional Hospital after a long illness. Officiating at the services, held at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Carroll was the Rev. Donald Wuertz; burial in Westlawn Cemetery here. Pallbearers were Jerry Schafer, Gale Schafer, Wilbur Heuton, Charles Best, Phillip Bushman and Kenneth Bushman. Honorary pallbearers were Virgil Peterson, Lawrence Topp, Wendell Heuton, Don Pratt, Arnold Heuton and Delbert Heuton. Organist was Mrs. K. K. Holley. Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Heuton sang "Have Thine Own Way", "How Great Thou Art," and "Lord's Prayer." He was born in Glidden, December 27, 1908, the son of John and Sophia Rath Schafer. He spent most of his life in the Glidden and Carroll area working in hospitals and farming. His marriage to Lillian Bushman took place February 18, 1931 at Peace Lutheran Church before the Rev,. F. H. Rudi. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. Surviving are his wife; three daughters, Mrs. Raymond (Jennie) Jacobs of Elko, Minn.; Mrs. Jim (Marilyn) Hoover of St. Charles, Mo., and Marjorie of the home; a sister Mrs. Marie Heuton of Carroll' two brothers, William and Henry both of Lake City, and six grandchildren.
