At the time Harm and his wife Gertie came to this country there were no immigration laws and with World War 1 in the coming, the parents wanted their children to forget all German ties, so the parents told their children little or nothing of their old country family. It seems they kept to their own family's and those of German Heritage. It must have been hard for them to speak English but they did their best especially when the war started. My dad used to tell about the Klu Klux Klan burning crosses in the neighbors ors lawns. It really was something you don't easily forget.
Funeral Remembrance list his death as March 30, 1903 living 66 years, 2 months and 19 days. Cemetery Records in Glidden list his birth as 3-30-1837 and death as 3-30-1903. The 1900 Census list his birthday as June 1836.
