DEATH OF MRS. BUSCHMANN Pastor of Deceased Gives Sketch of Her Life and Death
Gertie Fredricka Buschmann was born the 29th of October, 1840, at Vicktoburg, Ostfriesland, Germany. Her father's name was Fredrick Gers. Soon after her birth she received the sacrament of holy baptism. Fourteen or fifteen years later she was confirmed, after having gone through the school of her home village. The early part of of her womanhood she spent working for others at different places. The 16th of April, 1865, she was united in marriage with Harm Klassen Buschmann. This union was blessed with seven children, three sons, and four daughters. Two daughter preceded their mother in death. In the year 1891 the family left Germany and came to this country. They moved onto a farm near Glidden. About ten years ago Mr. Buschman died, leaving his wife a widow. Deceased then made her home with her son Dirk. Nearly two years ago Mrs. Buschmann fell dangerously ill with lung fever. Although she recovered at that time, a certain weakness was there to stay, causing her much anxiety. Since March of this year her health again failed her. For the last four or five weeks of her life she was laid up with what was supposed to be cancer of the stomach. Despite the very best care that was given by a physician, a trained nurse and such of the family as were near, strength would not return. She grew weaker and weaker and began to realize what was in store for her. The 26th of June at 8:30 a.m. death came to her as a redeemer from all earthly sorrow and pain. Mrs. Buschmann had lived 73 years, 7 months and 2_ days of age. Left to mourn her are three sons, tow daughters, twenty-seven grandchildren, besides a number of other relatives. Internment of her remains was made on Graceland cemetery, besides those of her late husband on Sunday afternoon. Rev. Kiesow officiating. In Germany you have to Proklamation (notice) your marriage 3 weeks before the wedding day in your hometowns. If someone has something to say against the marriage they have time to do this. The Proklamation was noticed March 12, 19, and 26 1865 in Victorbur and Aurich.
