I am Gerald G. Hurley. My ancestor is Joel Hurley Jr. born in Ohio (Miami/Shelby Co.???)and his wife Margaret Coughlin, (daughter of John Coughlin). Married in 1845, Joel Jr. died in Lagro Twp.,Wabash Co; Ind. in 1866. Margaret died in Lagro in 1875. Margaret was Catholic and was married to Joel Jr. in St. Patricks Catholic Church in Lagro, Indiana. They left the following issue: 1. John Hurley, male (died of swamp fever in his teens)b- Ind. 2. Thomas J. Hurley, male (my g-grandfather)b- Ind. 3. Robert, male b-Ind. 4. Nancy, female b-Ind. 5. James B., male b-Ind. 6. William, male b-Ind. After Margaret's death Nancy, James B. and William were given to the custody of Michael Coughlin of Lagro(Michael Coughlin was the brother of John Coughlin, both from Ireland). I have not found the status of Robert,Nancy,James B. or William above, but I am in search of Joel Hurley Jr.'s children. Nancy,James and William custody case, Wabash County Recorder Box 97; case 18, in 1875. I am also searching for the parents, heirs & wife's name of a Thomas Hurley, of Shelby Co.,Ohio, deceased 1821,(Shelby Co. Probate Court Case A-9, Mary Hurley Administrator, later married Alexander Jackson in 1824). Thomas Hurley entered Land in sec.36;twp.9; R-5; NE 160ac.patent #6684 on 4-5-1812 Newberry Twp. There were many Wabash, Ind. Hurley's at Thomas's estate sale but cannot tie them all down. There is a Joel Hurley,Sr.& wife "Jane" in Wabash Co.; Lagro Twp; Ind. who enter a patent for land in 1835, However, My understanding is that a senior and a junior are not necessarily father & son. Joel Sr. and Joel Jr. are on the 1840 Wabash Co., Ind. Census as separate HOH. I just can't ascertain the direct relationship of father & son. Zachariah of Penn. may be his father? I need help!!!!!!
