the Meyer family from the Sauerland, Germany Updated November 9, 2000
About Our Family Research
My father, Franz Meyer is Franz Meyer the 7th. We moved to Canada in 1987. Until then, the Meyer's mainly lived in Germany, to be more exact, in the so-called Sauerland. All I know is that my grandfather, Franz Meyer the 6th, had a dairy farm in a small town called Kallenhard in Nordrhein-Westfalen, but he was also a wandering salesman, travelling to Austria and Switzerland. He was married to Maria Sauer and together they had four children, two boys and two girls. However, one of the boys passed away at a young age. Franz Meyer the 6th came from a large family of about 8 siblings, mostly ? boys. To my knowledge, none of the siblings are alive today. There has been limited contact to the Meyer family. I just remember going to one family reunion in Kallenhardt about 15 years ago. Maria Sauer also came from a large family with relatives still living in Wennemen. Unfortunately, both my grandparents had passed away before I was born. Now I would like to gain more information on my family history and hope someone may be able to help me.
