I have been researching my family history for 20+ years. Here are my current areas of research.
1. My ancestors from the NJ area
Sussex and Warren Counties - My main family lines are the Price and Poyer families. My Price ancestor (Samuel Price of Hardwick) migrated to Sussex/Warren from Hunterdon county, NJ. The earliest known record of him is a land deed in Sussex dated 1786. He is mentioned in the will of Hunterdon county's James Price in 1796, though the exact relationship is unknown. Other NJ families in my tree: Green, Howell, Hunt, Parr, Smith, Van Doren, Vanderbilt, Wright, and Wyckoff.
2. My ancestors from the PA area
Columbia County - Webb, Thomas and Morgan families.
Berks County - Webb, Paine, and Boone families.
The above Price, Poyer, Morgan and Thomas families lived in PA and NJ in the early-mid 1800s, then moved west in the 1850s and 1860s.
The Morgans, who moved to southwestern MN, were 1st generation Americans of English and Welsh descent. They immigrated through the port of NY on Jul 11, 1843. They had lived for several years in the parish of Wem in Shropshire, England, though they were not originally from that county. They may have been from Denbigh, Wales. They were supposedly related to the family of John and Mary (Jones) Davis/Davies, who settled near them in the area of Worthington, MN.
The Price and Poyer families ended up in the area of Spirit Lake, IA though the Prices lived for a few years in IL and the Poyers lived for a few years in MI before arriving in IA. The Prices were of Scottish heritage. The Poyers were Welsh. Both families immigrated before the American Revolution, and intermarried with families of Dutch (Holland), Pennsylvania Dutch (Deutch=German), English, Irish, Welsh, and Swedish heritage.
3. My Canadian Irish ancestors were from the Carleton Place region of Lanark county, Ontario. They were the McCann, Murphy, Cogan and Poole families. The McCann/Murphy families immigrated to Ontario in 1840 from the Clonmore Catholic parish in county Wicklow, Ireland. The Poole/Cogan families immigrated to Ontario in 1851 from the Muckalee Catholic parish in county Kilkenny, Ireland. The McCann and Poole families moved to Oakwood, ND (near Grafton) in 1880.
4. My Canadian French ancestors were from the Laprairie region of Quebec, south of Montreal. They were the Vary and LaRoche families and migrated to Oakwood, ND in 1880. An ancestor of my LaRoche line was Henry Schreiber, a Hessian soldier who moved to Quebec after having deserted from the British during the Revolutionary War.
5. I have multiple Norwegian lines which I am researching. The family names include: Hvidsten, Reiquam (Reikvam), Sylskar (Solvskar), Nelson, Stave, Fossen, Fauske, Galteland, Ulleland, and Aameland. The Reiquams were the first of my Norwegian lines to arrive in the US. They immigrated in the 1860s and 70s and settled first near Belgrade, MN and then in Chippewa county, WI. My line of Reiquams later moved to the Choteau, MT area. All my other Norwegian families settled in the Marshall county, MN area in the early 1880s.
6. I am researching 4 Polish lines.
Gryskiewicz and Cieklinski Families:
These families emmigrated from the parish of Pinczin in Gdansk, Poland in 1883. They settled first near Winona, MN, then later moved to the area of Florian, MN. In Poland, their surname was spelled Grzeszkiewicz or sometimes Gryszkiewicz. The younger generation shorted it to Gryskiewicz after immigrating to America. Some members of the family (those who lived in St. Paul, MN) shortened the name even further, to Grace.
Kostrzewski and Chwialkowski Families:
These families emmigrated from the parish of Slawsk Wielki in Posnan, Poland in 1886. They first settled in Bloomington, IL for several years, and then moved to the Florian, MN area. A related Kostrzewski family moved to Peshtigo, WI. Many of their children later moved to California.
