I was born to Helen Workman Rohrer 8/17/49, and adopted at birth by a local couple. Although she was married to Clifford Ward Rohrer, he was not my birth father. Her sister, Dorothy Workman, knows this for a fact. As well, I recently learned that beyond the fact that Illinois adoption records are sealed, my adoption involved the exchange of money and real estate to further ensure that my birth father would remain anonymous. I do know he was a married, local restaurateur, and Helen worked for him as a waitress. She also produced a son with him, born 11/55 (we were reunited in 1999), then a daughter a year or two after that, who was adopted at birth. I know this because the organization handling her adoption offered her to my brother's adoptive parents, but they could not adopt another child at that time. My brother later learned that she had been adopted by an Australian doctor.
At the time of my adoption in 1949, my adoptive parents were offered the opportunity to adopt yet another of my sisters, then toddler-aged, so she would have been born approximately 1946 - 1948. I don't know if she was a half or full sister. They declined, and later told me they believed she was adopted by an Australian doctor! A coincidence? Two adoptions, both by Australian doctors, ten years apart, give or take a year or two?
My request is three-fold. I genuinely would like to know more about my mother and what she was like. I would also like to know if someone can assist me in determining for certain who my birth father is. And certainly, if there is anyone out there who suspects they might be related, please contact me immediately.
