About Our Family Research

George A. Ice married Flossie M Mason in Grant county Indiana, had 5 children and moved to Tucson for health of Kenneth Ice, son, approx 1930. There George Ice sold insurance and worked as a butcher at Steinfelds dept store. children: Velma, Marguerite, George Jr., Kenneth, Chester. Flossie Mason Ice a devoted member of First Baptist Church until her death in Tucson approx 1980. Flossie Mason was the youngest daughter of William Elsworth Mason(born Mar 17, 1862 in Franklin Twnshp, Grant co Indiana), a well respected and prosperous farmer, citizen and business man in Indiana and Rebecca A. Marine. Mr. Ice's family ran a grocery store. He courted her by sitting with her on the front porch of her family home. She preferred to "not see" the few times that Mr. Ice used "chewing tobacco", telling her granddaughter that "my father would never have allowed me to marry Mr. Ice if he knew that he (Mr. Ice) used chewing tobacco". Flossie Ice, at her death, had worn out a box full of bibles due to continuously running her fingers over the passsages as she read and reread the pages. Her daughter, Marguerite Ice Morgan Smith said that she remembers her grandfather (Flossie's father) William E. Mason reading the bible every night after dinner then having an apple before retiring for the night. It was a large well run farm. The females of the family would never appear at the stables if they wanted to ride. They would request that a horse be brought up to the house. It was a God loving peaceful home. At their wedding Mr. and Mrs Ice were given a home and furnishings as a wedding gift from her parents. THEIR CHILDREN WERE RAISED IN TUCSON AZ, WHERE THEY MOVED AS A RESULT OF KENNETHS ILLNESS AS AN INFANT.
