Updated August 17, 2005

About Our Family Research

Mahala was affectionatley known as "Hattie". She was born in Humtown, Ohio September 27, 1879. She was a high school teacher for 40 plus years and then became a house mother to student nurses at a T.B. Sanitarium. She died in the family homestead, January 12, 1981. She never married. One reason she gave was that she could not and would not iron those awfull white shirts of her day. This lady was very special and loved by all who knew her.
At the urging of her nephews, she wrote her memoir's: Memories; Our Parents; Our Brothers and Sisters; Maple Syrup; Making Apple Butter; Snitz and Knep; Making Soap in the Back Yard; Harvesting Grain and Stone Boats. A prescious heritage!
