Family of Garretts that originated from Georgia and South Carolina. Researched back to a Joe Garrett From South Carolina but cant find who his father was. In the early 1800's a family of Garretts came from South Carolina to what is now Lowndes County, Alabama. We do not know the name of the father of this family , nor do we know just why he came. WE Think his name might have been James. We can imagine his dreams of the great possibilities of this new section of country, his bravery and daring in seeking his fortune among unfriendly Indians, and his hardihood in facing the hardships of pioneer life. Tradition says that his wife was scalped by the Indians. We know that there were four sons in this family: Silas, Caswell, Joe and John. There is said to have been more but we dont who they were. I am posted this family tree from records of my grandfather and grand mother William Walter and Ardis Garrett.
