The Slingluffs of Avalon, New Windsor, Maryland

Updated July 6, 2003

About Our Family Research

Our branch of the Slingluff line is descended from one Heinrich Schlengelwolff and his wife, Anna Christina Gardner, who migrated to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania from Germany aboard the ship "Mortenhouse" (or possible "Wortenhouse") is 1769. His grandson, Jesse Slingluff moved to Baltimore, Maryland and was a successful merchant. He moved the family to "Avalon" in 1813 fearing the British attack on Baltimore during he War of 1812. Jesse and his brother-in-law, Christian Deradorff, laid out the town of Canal Dover, OH in 1806 (now simply "Dover"). We are 10 generations of German descendents in Maryland.

My Father, Robert Lee Slingluff, Jr. brought my mother from San Francisco, CA to Maryland in 1936. Her family was 4th generation Irish in San Francisco. Not a bad pedigree of I do say so myself!
