UNIVERSITY OF LIVERPOOL INTERNATIONAL SCHOLARSHIPS 2005/06

NOTES FOR GUIDANCE

The University of Liverpool International Scholarship Competition 2005/06 will provide up to forty Scholarships valued at 25% of the tuition fee payable. Scholarships awarded for undergraduate students are renewable for each year of study subject to suitable academic progression. These scholarships are only available for international students who have been accepted on an undergraduate or taught postgraduate (Masters) programme of study at the University of Liverpool.

Prospective applicants should note that those awarded a University International Scholarship will be required to pay the remaining portion (75%) of their tuition fees (at the overseas rate) and all living expenses from personal or external sources. You will have been informed of the full tuition fee payable for your course in the letter offering you admission to the University. Living expenses in Liverpool are estimated at between £5,000 and £7,000 annually for a student without dependents. As an international student, you will be required to prove that you have sufficient funding to cover tuition fees and living expenses in order to obtain entry clearance for the UK. If you are not able to meet these costs, please do not apply for a Scholarship.

1. Eligibility Criteria

In order to be eligible to apply for a University of Liverpool International Scholarship, you must be a national of a country outside the European Union (including the UK), or liable to pay full tuition fees at the “overseas” rate, and have firmly accepted the offer of a place on an undergraduate or Masters programme at the University of Liverpool.

University of Liverpool International Scholarships are awarded primarily on the basis of academic excellence. Please note that financial hardship is not taken into account. As with any scholarship competition, the general quality of your application and personal statement will also be important factors in the selection process. In particular, your personal statement must detail the reasons why you wish to come to Liverpool to study your chosen course. You should also clearly explain how you will meet the additional costs for your tuition and living expenses.

2. Completing the Application Form

The application form has been designed to be as easy to complete as possible. However, the following notes may help to guide you through the form.

2.1 QUESTIONS 1-11 request personal information in order for us to identify you and to ensure we have an address where you can be contacted during the summer preceding your proposed entry to the University. A valid email address is essential. Please ensure that you quote either your UCAS application number or University application number as appropriate. Please also ensure that you write your name in the boxes at the very top of the application form (both pages) as well as on all attachments.

2.2 QUESTION 12 asks you to specify whether you are applying for the International Scholarship competition or the International Baccalaureate (IB) Scholarship Award. If you are taking or already hold the full IB diploma, please apply for the IB Award only.

2.3 QUESTION 14 asks about your education and qualifications to date. Please give full details and ensure that you provide transcripts, in English, which verify the information you provide.

2.4 QUESTION 15 asks for details of your English Language qualifications. If you do not have a formal English language qualification, please ensure you attach details of your proficiency in English and how this was achieved.

2.5 QUESTION 16 asks about your (other) sources of funding. The University of Liverpool International Scholarships are awarded on the basis of academic merit and take no account of financial need. Therefore, we need information on how you are going to meet the remainder of your fees and your living costs.
