The Staie Family of Upstate New York and Canada

Updated January 22, 2004

About Our Family Research

I have researched the Jette-Staie family back to 1595 from Upstate New York to Canada to France. The spelling of the name was originally "Jette." When Louis Staie entered the military his name was that of Louis Jette, but was changed to Louis Jette dit Staie. Once he left the military he spelled his name as that of Louis Staie, which is the current spelling.

Once the Jette (Staie) family left France and came to Canada they settled mainly around Quebec, but later came to Howe Island, Frontenac Co., Ontario, Canada and from there to Clayton, Jefferson Co., New York and finally to Carthage, Jefferson Co., New York.

Some of the names included in the Staie family tree are that of Rivers, Sholette (Cholet), Delles, Shannon, Demers, Demarce, LeRoux, Besaw, Bisson, etc.

The Staie family were hardworking farmers and of strong Catholic background.
