Roy was Augustus Gilbert's son by his first marriage, but was so disliked by second wife Gertie that he was raised by his Aunt Roberta Gilbert. It is not known if Roy ever married, but he came to live with Lucius and Fannie Boyce as a relatively young man, and spent the rest of his life there working as a farm hand.
