The Jacquish and Jaquish Families are documented back to 1831 in Washington Twp., Morris Cty., NJ with the marriage of David Jaquish to Margeret Apgar.

A Samuel Jaquish is recorded in the township as early as 1800, but no further information is known. In addition, a John Jakewish was reported born in Fairmount, NJ in 1814. Some Jaquish family members were reported in the 1850 census as spelling their name "Jakewish", so it appears that the phonetic spelling was used.

The family includes members of the Sutton, Apgar, Welsh, and Farley families. All were well founded families in the area.

Research has been hampered since Washington Twp. split from Randolph Twp. Randolph was in Morris County and Washington is now in Warren County. Fairmount is a section of Tewksbury Twp which is located in Hunterdon County. Some family members lived in the Fairmount and Parker area which actually part of Bedminster Twp. in Somerset County. Records are scattered in four counties and some have been lost in fires.

It is believed that these family lines originate in Woodbridge, New Jersey with the Henry Jaques family (1666) that was originally from Newbury, MA (1640).

Any assistance in linking these two lines, identification of Samuel Jaquish in Washington, NJ in 1800 or parents of David Jaquish, would be greatly appreciated.
