Yoffe, Stohn, Solsky, Belgard, Davis of Lithuania and USA

Updated October 26, 2004

About Our Family Research

Yoffe (Jaffe) family started in Kedainai, Lithuania and spread to Zheimei, Dotnuvo, Kaunas, and most importantly Jonova Lithuania before coming to US, S. Africa and perhaps Israel. Names Leib, Issac, Itzik, Eliash, Moshe, etc. are common

Solsky family was originally Degternik family and lived in Jonowa Lithuania before USA and S. Africa.

Stohn (Stone) family was originally Sklarinsky of Daugai, Lithuania (near Vilna). They became the Stohn family of Boston and Sclar family of Maine. Names Nathan, Frank, Sam, Stanley are common in it. They are Jewish. (Note: there was a German Stohn family in Boston that is most likely not related to this family. The names Oscar and Alex run in it).

Belgard family was most likely of Prussia (Pomerania or Poland) before settling in Boston in late 1800s. (Perhaps from Bialograd/Belgard). The Belgard family is Jewish and therefore most likely not related to the Belgard family that settled in the Plains states and Canada. It may be related to the Belgard family of upstate NY, but that is not proven.

The Davis family settled in Boston and were Jewish but many have converted to other religons. Some of them may not know of their ancestry.
