Notes for Klementine Ratica: As written by Frieda Hruz Jahnke.
My Grandmother Klementine came to the U.S. and settled in Pennsylvania. Had coal miners for roomers and did all their wash and cooked. She moved to Milwaukee. She gave us a snack of home made spread on bread and sprinkled with sugar. Thus she was "Sugar Bread Grandma". She also had a loom and made many carpets in her home of discarded material cut into long strips and make into rugs. She and my grandfather also made their own wine. There was a huge garden in her yard. I learned how to plant a good sized garden from her; by making long rows with long boards to keep the rows straight. She was a very stern and straight person. Never was ill but passed away after putting her hand in to her stove which was part of a wood burning stove. She had terrible burns. Died at 81 after this happened.
Children of Klementine Ratica and Stephen Hruz are:
+John Ross Hruz, b. February 16, 1900, Bratislava, Chechoslovakia (Hasprunka), d. January 17, 1943, Milwaukee, WI.
