|
We have traced the Jewitt side of the family to England back to the mid 1600's and the Keeler side of the family to England, Switzerland and Germany back to the mid 1600's. The current generations all began in or around New Straitsville, Ohio. Most of our families immigrated here in the mid to late 1700's because of the coal fields in southern Ohio(lots of mines). Most were miners in England. We have a reunion for the Jewitt side of the family the 2nd weekend of August each year, held at Wingfoot Park in Portage County, Ohio. Almost all of the last generation of Jewitt men moved to this area to work in the rubber shops. This history is an ongoing project and we welcome input from all our relatives. Please contribute any and all information you might have to this project.
