Judge and Virginia Fowler Tankersley married on March 20, 1913. The family included twelve children, ten of whom grew to adulthood, married and had children of their own. Cullman County, Alabama, was our birthplace, but our homes and those of our offspring are scattered from Florida to Illinois, and from New York to California. Our Family Reunion (held annually for many years, usually at Wheeler Lake on the Tennessee River) brings fifty to seventy of us together each year. We are proud of our heritage, and proud of our offspring. Family names we are researching: Tankersley, Fowler, Pruitt, George,Rhodes, Bailey, Jones, Hunt, Kilgo, Wise,Tucker, Testa, Cinnamon, Jewett, Morris, Brown. Places of origin which occur most often in our family tree are the England, Scotland, Wales,Ireland. Most of our ancestors arrived in this country before the Revolution, and many participated in each subsequent war. Our ancestors included landed gentry and indentured servants, professionals and farmers. As we search out more of our ancestors, we look for the colorful and daring as well as the socially acceptable.
