It is May 18, 2000, two days before the 98th anniversary of Cuba's Day of Independence in 1902. I am the connecting point between the families mentioned above. My mother Julia was born Julia Luisa Martinez Perez and thus my connection to the Martinez Perez and the Martinez Ferrer Family. My father was Dr. Raul Jimenez Cortina of Caibarien, Cuba, and thus my connection to the Jimenez and Cortina lineages of that country. My wife's maiden name is Prieto Vina. Her mother was Maria Carlota Vina and her father was Jose A Prieto. I am now sixty years old. A bit older than most of my cousins. A bit younger than my youngest aunt Mercy Martinez Ferrer and her husband Carlos Perez. We all share a love for Caibarien, LV, Cuba. Although some of us have never been there. Our families after all, all originate from Caibarien, Remedios and Camajuani. We will return there some day to bathe in the beaches of Caibarien, and enjoy the sea breeze, paella and salsa de perro.
