The D'Angelo came on a ship named"Homeland"

About Our Family Research

There are so many things to say....Where do I come from...Who Am I..
I was the first in my family born here in Canada . My mother came here in 1952, on a ship named Homeland. she left a little town named Roccamorice in the southern part of Italy, the Abruzzo region. The ship landed in Halifax Nova Scotia on December 6,1952. You know it must have been cold back in those days..My mother did not travel alone, she had my siblings Dan, Antoinette, and Gino who were very young and herself being only 25 years in age..To a strange cold land they came to. It took nearly two weeks to get to Canada from Italy and the waters were very rough, the children taking sick did not help matters. The journey did not end in Halifax, they had to travel several more days to get Toronto, then to Windsor where my father was to meet them..My mother became quite ill during all this, she was taken to the hospital for medical reasons..All in all my parents were united and lived in a town called Amherstburg,Ontario. This is the place I call home, all of my family lived there for years. Most of us encluding my mother are still there..It was difficult being a immigrant living in
canada. Our culture was so different, Iwas ashamed of being Italian as a child..As a grew to be an adult, I learned how much being Italian meant in this Country. We helped build it...And all our traditions, our food and our language has been such a benefit in my life... I love my language,I love my culture, I love my italian, but most of all I love my parents, especially my mother for teaching me about laughing, loving and sharing the Italian way. I still speak Italian and when I get together with my family We laugh and eat, we share stories, the way they did back in Roccmorice.... Let's not forget where it all began.
