About Our Family Research

Its been 7 years since the idea of creating family tree or a family website comes in my mind. I never have time to really concentrate on the thought nor did i have a proper motivation to start to begin with. My husband and I had travelled a lot for the past 8 years, to almost every parts of the world. From the Middle East to Europe, Asia and America(yeah! thats right we partied!!!). We still are travelling but not as regimented as it to be. We're now base in Atlanta Georgia in the US at the moment. TJ, my husband works with Delta Airlines as a Flight Simulation Engineer, and I teaches Tennis for Kids. Since I don't work fulltime this would give me time to start for the all time project i have always thought i'd do...the making of my family tree and now this website which i'm naming in honor of my father's name Julio Ricardo Custodio Olivera.
Let me start from the story my grandfather had told me. My grandfather's name was Damaso Olivera, he was from a Filipino Purtuguese Spanish decent. All of us his grandchildren called him "Tatay Maso" I have heard so many variations of our Family name. Some say it supposed to be spelled Oliviera with an "i" in Purtuguese, but since the Spaniards reigned us for 300 something years they ordered us to change our names to Spanish names...thats why we omitted the "i".
Back in my hometown, in Naga City, people would always associate music with the name "OLIVERA". There's my aunt Ms. Bella Olivera was a former "Tawag ng Tanghalan" national champ, a big singing competition all over the Philippines in the 60's and 70's. Then there's D'Olivera Brothers,my dads Eldest brothers sons band. Then they formed this spanish band that travels all over asia, the Cuatro Calientes, led by Dan Olivera along with his Wife Connie and 3 sons Bong, Chris and Wowie. Even my sisters and I have this tremendous amount of passion to music...when i was growing up they all are into bigtime singing and they all are playing the guitar. A lot of people have tried to encourage us to perform professinally but we never take it seriously. I started playing the guitar since i was 13 but it wasn't until i was 16 that i really gotten serious about learning to play. I pretty much play any type of music but i love Alternative the most...i love Alanis and Sheryl Crow a lot.
Now, my niece Jennifer Silva, can really sing and play the guitar like a pro...whew! especially when she do the "Cranberries" she truely is a natural performer! she will rock your world when you hear her sings.
So when ever there's a party in our family expect a Karaoke Sing along all night.

  • Julio and Clotilde's wedding in 1952 (625 KB)
Taken in 1952, they said it was a fabulous wedding. Since dad was in military at that time so they have had a Military Wedding. They have had walked across the tunnel of crossed swords. I think my mom looks so beautiful with her dress and my dad looks like a movie actor with his white tux.
