The Reddings of Chicago, IL

About Our Family Research

After many years of wondering and wishing I knew more about my ancestors, I am finally making an effort to uncover my "roots". My father, Augustus Joseph Redding, was a rather quiet, reserved man who rarely talked about his past or his family relations, although occasionally the names Dorothy or "Dot", and Anthony would be mentioned. I know that daddy's mother's name was Julia -- I do not know her surname -- and sadly, I do not know my paternal grandfather's given name, although it's rumored to have been Joseph.

There's a little more information about my mother Angelica's side of the tree, as she has the most surviving family members, not to mention that Mom tended to be more generous with information of a familial nature. Her father, Green Hubbard, of Black/Indian/Irish descent and mother, Agnes McBee, Black, were parents of daughters, Madeline, Gerana (Grace), Angelica, and Almeda, and son, Sigsbee. The family's homestead was somewhere in the backwoods of Knoxville, Tennessee. I have heard that Grandfather Green was killed in a coal mining accident just a few years after Grandmother Agnes' passing which left the children orphaned and to be raised by their maternal aunts, including Rachel, Clora, Mary and Charlie.

I will post more info as it becomes available.
