for JAMES CARR: James Carr first appears on Massachusetts records, 1672, in all probability having arrived the previous year; was engaged at Iron Works, Rowley Village 1672-3; soldier from Reading, in Narragansett Expedition and frontier posts, King Philip's War, 1675-6; settled at Newbury--first lived near Frog Pond, but prior to 1700, removed to West Parish, now West Newbury, and resided on bank of Merrimack River east of Long Hill until death, June 15, 1740; was a housewright, husbandman, freeman, freeholder or proprietor. Never married.
