William HILL (son of Sion W HILL and Elizabeth MARRIOT) was born 1710 in Surry, North Carolina, and died 1777 in , , Virgina. He married (1) Susannah SMITHERS on 02 March 1736 in , Carolina, Virgina, daughter of Thomas SMITHERS and Susannah SINGLETON. He married (2) Elizabeth WILLIAMS on 1750.

William Hill was born in Virginia in 1710, son of Sion Hill and Elizabeth Marriott. He married Susanna Smathers in 1736. William moved to Surry Co., NC (present-day Stokes County) about 1760. He settled on a large farm West of what is now known as the Voss farm in Walnut Cove. William Hill served in the Provincial Congress which met in Hillsboro on August 20, 1775. He died in Stokes County, NC in 1784 and is buried in the Voss Family Cemetery.

WILLIAM HILL, SR. was born in about 1700 in Middlesex Co., VA, and died in about 1787 in Surry Co., NC. He may have had several wives . Mentioned are:

1st Bridget (Hearn) Mullinax, widow of John Mullinax, on April 24, 1729 in Middlesex Co., VA.

2nd Elizabeth Williams, born around 1719 in Virginia.

3rd Our Susannah Smithers, in 1736 in Caroline Co., daughter of THOMAS SMITHERS and SUSANNAH SINGLETON. She was born in about 1716 in Caroline Co., VA, and died before 1770 in Surry Co., NC.

He left a will in 1777 at Surry Co. North Carolina.

William Hill's will was probated during the February term of Court in 1787 in Surry Co., NC. In 1760, he moved to Surry Co. NC, known as Stokes Co., NC. He was an important person in his times and he served in the Provincial Congress which met in Hillsboro, NC on Aug 20, 1775 and cast a vote for American independence, setting up the first state government.

William Hill, Sr. has been erroneously listed as a son of Sion Hill, Jr. of Surry and Sussex Cos. VA. Fact is, there was no relationship of these two families. This William Hill, Sr. seems to have had Maryland origins.
