John Hill served with General Jackson in the Creek Indian War. He was called "Captain Big John" by the Indians because of his size and strength

On 17 Oct 1797 he was living in Davidson Co., TN when he sold a tract of land on Ash Camp Creek, NC "which he is entitled to as one of the heirs of Rev. William Hill, deceased."
