Notes for DVORA (DORA) BRONER: Per MBK, Dora was brought to US, via steamship, by a Dr. Diamond, a friend of her brother, Louis Brown, who sent Dr. Diamond to Zaklikow with instructions to bring back any sibling who was not married (Dora was the only unmarried sibling); Dora traveled with Dr. Diamond from an unknown port (possibly Germany??), stopping in Paris, France, and landing at the port of NY. Family history indicates that Dora arrived in NY the week bofore or the week of Henry Schnur's Bar Mitzvah (Sometime around August, 1921???). Dora refused to leave the dock with Dr. Diamond, insisting that she would only leave with "her brother" Lou, who was coming to pick her up. Lou did eventually arrive and took Dora to their sister MAriamSchnur (mother of Henry, Lil & Helen "Nookie" Schnur). Per MBK, 6/22/99.
Dora told KSK that while in Paris, she saw a street vendor selling apples. She held out her hand with money & the vendor took some for the apple. Dora often wondered whether the vendor took the correct amount. (KSK recollection of conversation with Dora Birmel which took place in her apartment on Dreyer Avenue, Staten Island, NY, sometime in the late 1960's or warly 1970's).
