I am attempting to find out where I came from. With a surname as Fitzgerald, and being African American, I'm pretty sure it was not Ireland. My father, died in 1996 at the age of 91, did not talk much about his parents, both of which were deceased before I was even thought of. This is what I do know about the African American Fitzgeralds. My grandfather's name was Augustus Fitzgerald, grandmother was Sarah (Johnson) Fitzgerald. They had 14 children, the second to the youngest was my father, George Clinton Fitzgerald. They have always resided in Kingston, NY or the nearby surroundings (Ulster County). I do not have a birth date for my grandparents. My father was born 12/30/1904. I was able to find birth records of some of my uncles and aunts, but I don't know where my grandparents came from. I know that they were not slaves, but I have no idea who their parents are or how to find out. This thing is haunting me! Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.
