Keene - Gregory family & related ancestral pages

About Our Family Research

For the better part of my life I have been interested in photography from my first Kodak Instamatic camera to the latest use of digital cameras and editing. I have also considered myself the "keeper of pictures". I don't know why I started, but I remember once recovering "family pictures" from the garbage can that were headed for the dump. I always knew that they would be important. Maybe it was an ancestor tapping me on the shoulder and telling me to recover those precious memories, and maybe it was just my heart wanting to hold onto the past in one of the only ways I could. Whatever the reason, I always try to protect the images of our family members from being lost due to neglect and also consider it part of my family obligation to learn as much as I can from these photos and to share the important ones with everyone that expresses an interest. Labeling and digitizing these old photos has become a passion of mine. On this site, you'll find just a sprinkling of some of the group photos that are memorable.

Also, several years ago, my mom and I had been gathering information to use in putting together our own family tree. I could see her passion for learning more and sharing stories and I felt her desire to dig deeper into the past than anyone in our immediate family had done. Also, in the early 1980's, my Aunt Bunny (Veronica Haupers) showed me the actual (onionskin) discharge papers from my great great grandfather Maximilian Grodzki. For many years I had hoped to get a photocopy of that for my own descendants. Then, after nearly 20 years (Aunt Bunny had long since passed away...), I renewed the connection with Aunt Bunny's son, William Haupers, and he allowed me to take the actual discharge to Kinko's for beautiful color copies. Bill passed away just around Valentine's Day this year, and his presence will be sorely missed. He had great stories of life "on the force" at the Chicago Police Department and great stories about family members that will now have to be remembered and passed down as best we can. God bless you Bill... I hope his sons take up his torch of family history that Aunt Bunny started and keep alive the stories that made both her's and Bill's life so rich.

So, enjoy a small trip through memory lane by taking a peek at our family photos and maybe searching the family trees for someone you know. I hope your stay is pleasant!
