About Our Family Research

Most of my family came from Europe to Northeastern Pennsylvania in the mid to late 1800s.

• Michael & Mary Malia (O'Malley) Hennigan first arrived in Dunmore, PA from County Mayo about 1848.

• James Ford was born in PA in 1860 and married Bridget Farrell from Ireland about 1880 in Avoca.

• James & Mary Butler Flynn arrived in Dunmore from County Mayo about 1865.

• James Sample was in Dunmore from Ireland by 1866 when he married Frances Dingee, who was born in Windsor, Broome Co, NY, in 1847. She was the daughter of Peter and Electa Smith Dingee, who lived in Wayne County, PA, and the granddaughter of Calvin Smith & Magdalena Springsteen Smith Van Barager of Windsor, NY.

• Peter McClimon (McClymer) was also in Dunmore from Ireland, possibly County Down, by 1866 when he married his first wife, Mary Doran. By 1878, Mary was dead and Peter was married to Bridget Cunningham, also from Ireland.
