Includes NotesNotes for Elizabeth Regina Prettyman:
Elizabeth was born on a rainy Saturday morning. Her sister Anne ran through the rain to tell family and friends about her new baby sister. Elizabeth was named for her father's mother, who was known as Lillian; but her name really was Elizabeth. The nickname of Betty was given to Elizabeth shortly after her birth. Before Betty was born, cousin Catherine Farrell, Emma's sister Carrie's daughter, came to live in the household. Her mother had just died. Cass was only three years old, the same age as brother Jack. She stayed with the family as another sister until her marriage. At Confirmation in St. Raphael's Church, Betty took the name of Regina, after her mother. Since she loved this name, she made it her middle name. From now on, she was always known as Elizabeth Regina Prettyman. This caused a bit of a problem at Graduation from West Philadelphia Catholic High School, as the name on the birth certificate was to be on the diploma. Betty held her ground, and Regina is on her diploma! After high school, Betty worked as a Customer Service Representative for Bell Telephone Company. When her father retired, he and her mother moved to Absecon, New Jersey. Since Betty was twenty at the time, they decided it best not to move her away. She then lived with her sister Anne, and brother-in-law Wacker until her marriage.

Brothers and Sister:

Anna Catherine was the oldest child and always saw that the others were taken care of. She was a most loving sister who never stopped looking out for the rest of the family. She married William Hess of Essington, Pa.. William was called Wacker! As a child his mother dressed him in very fancy clothes; so he had to fight his way through! Wacker was drafted into the Army during Worls War II, and left for Europe on the day that their first child was born. He served in some of the most ferocious battles of the War. While he was away, Anne and baby Jeanne came home to live. Anne took her little sister Betty with her to the movies and ice cream parlors, and always made her feel very special! Anne and Wacker had two daughters, Regina (Jeanne) Loro and Lorraine Rossi.

Robert Alexander Prettyman-- what a name to live up to! He was named after his father and his great grandfather. Rob was the big brother, and very handsome. He joined the Navy during World War II, and served in many various regions of the world. Although he was in the Navy, he served aboard Merchant Marine ships as a gunner. From Africa to Europe, he saw quite a bit of action. On at least one occasion, his ship was sunk. After being rescued, the men wore whatever clothing could be gotten together for them, but they survived! Rob married Dorothy Demcher, a beautiful and extremely nice girl She was a welcome addition to the family. They had five children: Robert, Terri DeMatte, Stephen, James and Bryan.

John Edward, named for his grandfather, was the third child. Burr was his nickname, probably because that was the haircut of the summer-- and he had one! Jack was always one of the nicest guys around. He would give you whatever he had; or help you when he could. Jack was drafted into the Army during the Korean Conflict. His favorite war story was about how they invaded the Island of Chickoteck, Virginia by Train! He was later assigned to work at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. as a radio technician. While still in the Army, he married Margaret (Sis) McCabe from Philadelphia and had three children: John Edward (Pete), Hannah (Sissy) and Diane. No one ever had a better brother or dad! Jack worked for over twenty years for Trailways and Greyhound Bus Companies as a mechanic. He then retired to Florida.
