Notes for Robert Alexander Prettyman: Robert Alexander Prettyman was born in Philadelphia on June 24, 1888. He was a very talented man who was artistic, as well as an excellent carpenter and house painter. He married Emma Kohlbrenner. Although they lived in the same neighborhood as children, they didn't meet until both were grown and living in the same neighborhood for the second time. They lived in the "Meadows" in Philadelphia, just a few blocks apart! After their marriage, Robert built their own home several blocks away from their family homes. Robert and Emma had four children, but often had others with them as well. Niece Catherine Farrell came to live with the family when she was only three. Cass was their third "daughter", and stayed until her marriage. Robert was always happiest when his children where around him. When Betty was little, he built her a playhouse. This house was so exceptional that strangers thought someone lived in it. It was high enough inside for an adult to stand. Betty's mother made curtains for the windows, which incidently raised and lowered like real windows. Many happy years were spent with the neighborhood children playing inside! Robert retired and he and Emma moved to Absecon, New Jersey, where again he built their house. Robert died in 1961.
