Nora Sheehan (daughter of Thomas Sheehan and Mary Halloran) was born October 22, 1875 in County Clair, Ireland, and died May 17, 1933 in Phila., Pa.. She married (1) Edward Deegan on 1896 in Phila., Pa.. She married (2) Michael Kelly on 1917 in Phila., Pa..
Notes for Nora Sheehan: Nora imigrated from County Clair, Ireland in 1889. She and Edward Deegan were married in 1896 in Philadelphia. They had at least four children. Edward died from pneumonia in November 1906. Their infant son John died in March, 1907 at four months of age. Nora was unable to support herself and the children, and they were placrd in Homes. The boys were sent to St. Francis Industrial Home in Eddington, Pa., and Margaret (Mazie) went to West Philadelphia Industrial School as a boarder. Nora obtained work as a domestic and cook for wealthy people in West Chester, Pa.. Later she moved to 58th and Greenway Avenue in Philadelphia. She supported herself by serving meals and renting rooms to workers from the PTC (Phila. Transportation Co.).
Michael Kelly worked at Brills Motorcar Company nearby. Michael imigrated to the United States from Ireland in 1883; and became a citizen in 1895. He and Nora were married in 1917 and they lived at 2131 S. 58th Street in Philadelphia. Although he had attended The University of Dublin and spoke several languages, the opportunities were not available for him in this Country. He became a foreman at Brills Motorcar Company in Philadelphia. They made both trolley cars and buses. Nora's son Tom also worked at the plant while Michael was there. Nora died on May 19,1933 and is buried in Holy Cross Cemetery Cemetery with her first husband, Edward Deegan, and their infant son, Jphn. Michael survived until April 27, 1939. He also is buried in Holy Cross Cemetery.
