    Catherine Mowat Findlay 'Kittie Toper' at eighteen years of age, Kittie Toper, the grandmother of Edward had four children, Margaret Findlay, James, John 'Ian ', and George 'Dodo ' Mair. Kittie Toper is recorded as being a Cullen guttin` quine , a hard worker in a harsh environment, raised in the austereness of the Close Brethren religious sect, and Victorian diciplines.

    Catherine Mowat Findlay 'Kittie Toper' with husband , Skipper James Mair, and first born, daughter Margaret Findlay, mother of Edward. James Mair was lost overboard and presumed drowned on September 21st,1929 off the steam drifter River Spey, about 35 miles north east of Buchan Ness.They had four surviving children, Margaret Findlay, James, John 'Ian ' and George 'Dodo ' Mair. Margaret Findlay Mair was employed as a trawl net braider until marriage, James served in the Royal Navy WW11, later he served in the Aberdeen trawler fleet.John and George, both physically handicapped from birth eventually found employment with the Royal Institute for the Blind workshop for clients with other disabilities.

    William Gill Kemp, father of Edward, was the son of Adam Smith and Johan Kemp,He seved time as a butcher by trade,then WW11 called him to service as a gunner in the Royal Artillary.1939-1945, he served in Scapa Flo, Iceland, and the Euro Theatre of War.

    Margaret Findlay ( Mair) wed William Gill Kemp at the Ferryhill Church Manse in Aberdeen Scotland. They had five children, William Gill ,the first born died in infancy , he is buried in Nigg Parish Churchyard. other children are Edward, William, Douglas, and Catherine Margaret Findlay Kemp.Attendants were, best man , George Findlay Ross, cousin of the bride, maid of honour was Helen 'Nellie' Black, co-worker of Margaret and close friend of both.

    Edward Kemp eldest son of Margaret Findlay ( Mair), and William Gill Kemp. born June 27th, 1936 at 13 Ferry Road, Torry Aberdeen, Scotland He served in the Great Line vessels of Aberdeen, and in the Merchant Navy, emigrating to Canada in 1961, where he became the senior Coastal and Harbour Pilot for Cape Breton Island, retired in 2002

    Edward Kemp met Hectorina Louvine MacLeod, she hailed from Florence, Cape Breton Island in Nova Scotia, she was an employee of Bell Canada in Montreal, and Edward was serving in the Merchant Navy
