I have just begun researching my family tree, and this is the most I have: My name is Mark Richard Kemp; my father is Richard Leverette Kemp, the son of Eli Leverette Kemp (born June 22, 1908, in Randolph Co, North Carolina; died January 06, 1982 in Jacksonville, Florida), and Edna Jane Beeson (whom he married on July 28, 1929). Eli Leverette Kemp was the son of Eli Joab Kemp (born October 1, 1874 in Randolph Co. NC, died May 12, 1955 in Asheboro,NC). Eli Joab Kemp, who was married to Ella Rose Humble, was the son of Joab Kemp and Susannah Barker. Joab Kemp is the son of Joshua Kemp and a woman named Sarah. Joshua Kemp is the son of Joseph Kemp and Welmett Hayworth. And Joseph Kemp is the son of Richard Kemp and Susannah Piggott. Apparently (but not officially), Richard Kemp is either the son or grandson of George Kemp, who was authorized, in October of 1672, by George Fox (founder of the Quaker movement in England) to hold a men's Friends meeting near the James River on the eastern seaboard of Virginia. Apparently, this was one of the earliest Quaker meetings in the United States.
One of the main reasons I am doing this family tree -- in addition to figuring out who I am and where I came from -- is that I have recently joined the Society of Friends Meeting in New York City, and I am eager to learn about the Quaker branch of my family. Ultimately, I'd like to find out WHO these characters are and what made them tick. I'd also like to further research other branches of my family tree, including the Beesons (on my father's side) and the Carltons and Billingses (on my mother's side).
I would love to hear from anyone with any more specific information about these trees and the wonderful characters who comprise them.
