An attempt to bring together all the information available concerning the above family for the benefit of any one interested now or in the future. From what I have learned to date there were Kemps living and farming in the townland of Tierorkan or Tyrorkan from the middle of the 18th century as freeholders or as tenants of the local landowner Lord Farnham who originated in Lanarkshire in Scotland and I assume was granted land in Co Cavan as part of the plantation of Ulster . The name Kemp has several different possible explanations but the likliest maybe a shortened version of Campbell, however this is purely conjecture and it might be useful to find out how the Kemps came to Tyrorkin and managed to settle there for two hundred years until my father Robert John Kemp sold the farm in the 1950,s and moved to Killnacross, Redhills, Co.Cavan where his grandson David Dunne who cared for him in his old age carries on farming to date. There were several different families of Kemps living in cl;ose proximity in seperate households at Tyrorkin who were probably all descended from the original settler but presumably the biggest share of the family land stayed in our ancestors hands and the other Kemp families resident in Tyrorkin were descended from the less fortunate siblings. I hope perhaps to make contact with some long lost relations
