After over 10 years of genealogical research, we've found various Kennerly - Kennerley - Kenerly family ancestors who lived further across the US than previously imagined: from Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania and Delaware to North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Arkansas, Mississippi, Texas, Kentucky, Tennessee, California, Indiania, Illinois, Missouri, Oregon, the Dakota's ... well, they lived in almost every state in the US, into Canada and, of course, they lived back in England, too.
Especially in Cheshire, England. Based on records and documents, the Kennerley family originated in Cheshire, England and not Devon or Wales, Scotland or Ireland as many "legends" would have you believe. Further research through DNA testing has revealed an even more surprising past ... but if you'd like to learn more about our more distant past, contact us!
The Kennerley surname has numerous spelling variations in offical records/documents over time, to include: Kennerly, Kennerley, Kenerly, Kenerley, Kinnerly, Kinnerley, Kennersley ... Kinly, Kinley, Kenly, Kenley ... and even some were known as McKenderly, McKinly and Kennedy ... and would you believe Cannerly -- all subject to misspellings, which clearly reflect record keepers misunderstanding, mispronounciation, transcription or transposition errors ... some of those (mis)spelling variations have continued to present day. No matter how the spelling variations occured, they have greatly complicated tracking individuals and family lineages.
