The Gordon Family From Virginia and Indiana

Updated November 9, 2000

About Our Family Research

I am researching the Gordon family from Virginia and Indiana. My paternal great-grandfather, Jacob Nathan Gordon, was born September 16, 1843 in Rockbridge County, Virginia. He was the son of William Gordon and Elizabeth (Trout?) Some of Jacob's siblings were William, James, Virginia, Christie, John. The family moved to Homer, Rush County, Indiana about 1850. They had a James Peters, age 85, and Mary Peters, age 60, living with them in the 1850 Census. Later my great-grandfather, Jacob, and at least some of his family moved to Tipton County, Indiana. William and Elizabeth both died about 1865. Jacob married Mary F. Elliston, and he served in the Civil War. He moved to Crawford County, Missouri where his wife died. He then married my great-grandmother, Martha Ellen (Branham) Kincade. Jacob died in Clinton County, Missouri in 1927. Other surnames I am researching are BENNETT, CROOK, HODGE, PETREE, SPEAR, NOBLE, ELLIOT, ROBINSON, WILLS, KENNEDY, YOUNG, BRASHER, HAMBY, POLLARD, GIBBONS, DUNCAN, STRODE
