GENEALOGY OF THE LEWIS FAMILY

1. JOHN LEWIS, an original settler of America, came from Wales
about 1640 and settled in Westerly, Rhode Island. On March 22, 1641 he signed an article treaty with the Indians at Westerly, R.I. October 28, 1668, he was made a Freeman. May 18, 1669 his name appeared on a list of inhabitants of Westerly. September 17, 1676 he took the Oath of Allegiance, Died about 1690 and with his wife whose name is not known, was buried in Westerly. They had eight children,: one of which was
1.Israel born 1659-died June 28, 1719, who married Jane Babcock, daughter of James Babcock (the first male white child born in the Narragansett Country) and Jane (Brown) Babcock. They had
six children.
