Kimbroughs of Tallapoosa County, Alabam

Updated August 7, 2002

About Our Family Research

I have been researching the descendants of Bradley B. Kimbrough who settled in the Flint Hill Community near Alexander City in Tallapoosa County Alabama. Bradley B. Kimbrough was born in 1795 in Greene County, Georgia, but later moved with his first wife, Martha Winfield (daughter of Nathan and Elizabeth Wingfield) to Alabama. There, his son (my great-great grandfather, Thomas Winfield Kimbrough was born in 1822. Thomas (apparently named for either an Uncle Thomas or g-g-g-grandfather Thomas of Caswell County, N.C.). As recorded in the Dadeville, Alabama Courthouse, Thomas married Nancy Patterson abt. 1843. They were the parents of Daniel Tichnor Kimbrough, grandparents of Daniel Erastus Kimbrough and great-grandparents of my father, Theo Daniel Kimbrough, Sr. I am Theo Daniel Kimbrough, Jr. and have a son, Philip Daniel Kimbrough and Grandson, Adam Daniel Kimbrough. Hence, there are six generations of "Daniels" in a row! I am an amateur genealogist and my current interest is in resolving such problems as confirming that Thomas Kimbrough (c.a. 1701-1777) and Eleanor Graves (c.a. 113-1788) were our line's ancestors, namely the parents of William Kimbrough, Sr., who settled in Greene County, Georgia. I am also interested in determining whether William Kimbrough, Jr. (also of Greene County, Ga.) was slain by his son-in-law, Mordecai Baldwin. Finally, I would like to obtain convincing evidence that John Kimbough, Jr. (Not "Colonist" John Kimbrough) was the father of the elder Thomas Kimbrough (Kimbrow,Kimber, Kimbriel, Kimborrow, etc.).
