Etter, Martin, Kirby, Peterson families

Updated August 8, 2011

About Our Family Research

Etter family came from Switzerland and married into the William Martin (Province & Harlan Families) from Pennslyvania, which united in my grandfather, Robert Martin Etter of Washington, D.C.. He married Emma Clementa Peterson, originally from New Orleans whose mother was from the Sullivan family from Ireland. Her brother owned a steam boat and perished in the 1900 Galveston Flood. I do not know anything more of her family except that her father was said to own a hotel, I presume in Washington, D.C.

Kirby family: Six brothers came from Ireland during the Potatoe famine. I am descended from Patrick Kirby who married Mary Ryan, and from Joe Kirby who migrated to Sioux Falls, S.D. and married Ellen McMahon. Joe Kirby's nephew was Dr. (Rev.Msgr) William J. Kirby of Washington, D.C., r.i.p.
