The Kljako family name comes from a small town in Bosnia-Herzegovina. The name can be traced back around 1400 years to the same town. In about the 15th century Ottoman turks invaded Bosnia. After several failed attempts they finally succeeded. The population, who was 99% Bogumil (a sect of Christianity), converted wholly to Islam. The Kljako last name remained the same after conversion to Islam in the 15th century. The Turks brought with them slaves to work the fields. Most of these slaves were brought over from Serbia. When the Russians sided with the Austo-Hungarian empire in 1867, the Turks were forced to relinquish control of 2/3 of Bosnia to The Austro-Hungarian empire. With the arival of the Catholic Austro-Hungarians, Bosnia was almost devastated. 1/3 of Bosnia was ethnically cleansed of all Bosnians. Some Serbs, who were not slaves, were not cleansed (These Serbs were part of the Ottoman army and were brought in as soldiers.) This teritory was then settled by Croat catholics. All remains of muslim and Bosnian history were destroyed (except for stecki(Bosnian bogumil gravestones). About half of this teritory is in dispute today(Serbs, who have more rights to this teritory than the Croats, claim this as Republika Srpska Krajina). Other towns, such as Split, Zadar, and Sibenik are part of Croatia. The Bosnians that were cleansed from this part of Bosnia were re-settled in what is today Turkey. 3 and a half million were forced to move to Turkey. Almost 5 million bosnians, ancestors of the 3 million refugees, live in Turkey now. One third of Bosnia was left in the Ottoman empire until the end of the Balkan wars. In 1912, Novo Pazarski Sandzak was left to the Kingdom of Serbia. This part of Bosnia has an almost 80% Bosnian population In 1918, a serb slave, Gavrilo Princip, shot the archduke Francis Ferdinand of Austria in Sarajevo, Bosnia causing Austro-Hungary to declare war on Serbia(this was the begining of wwI) At the end of the war, Bosnia was forced to be a part of The Kingdom of Serbs, Croats, and Slovenes. Even Though the Bosnians outnumbered slovenes by a million people, Bosnians were denied a nationality. They were forced to declare themselves as Serbs or Croats. In 1941, The fascist state of Croatia annexed Bosnia as part of Croatia. The leading Bosian intellectuals sided with the Croats. The vice president of the state was a Bosnian (Dzafer Beg Kulenovic). A communist opposition was created by stallin during the war. It was headed by a Croat, Josip Broz. He promised the Bosnians everything at the completion of the war. But when the war ended, Tito decided again to deny Bosnian existance. A bigger slap in the face of Bosnians was that he gave another republic a national status(Montenegro). This republic numbered less than 750,000 people, of which 20% were Bosnians(The other third of Bosnia that was left to the kingdom of Serbia). In 1967, when Tito realized that Bosnians were not declaring themselves as Croats or Serbs, he started a new initiative to create a new nationality for the Bosnians thinking about the Serbs and Croats that lived in Bosnia. He decided to give the Bosnians the national name Muslim(with a capital M to distinguish from religion). This gave the slaves(Serbs and Croats) a good position in the constitution. Instead of being slaves, they were now equal partners in the eyes of the constitution. After receiving their freedom from slavery in 1867, serbs and croats now received land from the Bosnians. During the Ottoman empire, slave had no property rights. 96% of the land in Bosnia was owned by the master Bosnians. After agrarian reforms were carried out by the kingdom of Yugoslavia, Tito made a second agrarian reform. All this did was relenquish Bosnian land to the slaves(serbs and croats). Today there is still a war continuing in Bosnia. Serb slaves took over half of the land by force. All bosnians were expelled from those lands(I believe this is go
