I am currently living in Germany and am conducting research of the Kneeland Family Name. The name Kneeland is also present not only from me but also with a Shiela Kneland. According to some records the Kneeland name began in Scotland. However the name surfaces in Ireland under the anglicized form of the Irich O'Faolain and ranks amoung the fufty most common Irish names. The name form of "Whelan" was adopted in the County of Wexford and Carlow. The names also appeares to be spelt CLELAND, KNELAND, CLEALAND, CLILAND, CLEILLAND, and CLAYLAND. The family is origially believed to have been of Welsh origin and settled in Antrim soon after the Anglo-Norman invasion of Ireland. The greater part of their lands were forciably taken from them by the Macdonnels towards the close of the 16th Century. The first registered Kneeland in America was a John Kneeland in 1607 some where on the east coast.
Anyone having information on Ralph Kneeland born approx. 1875 and died January 1988 in Guymon please contact me at Dale.Kneeland@t-online.de
