I am researching the Baucom/Umbles and Webb/Ball families from Tennessee and Alabama. I am fairly new at this, but have learned some information from other Family Trees on-line. My father, Raymond D. Baucom, was the son of Edward Jackson Baucom (b. 03/11/1879, d. 08/10/1957, Athens, Alabama) and Susie Dean Umbles (b. 03/01/1885, d. 07/30/1962, Athens, Alabama; daughter of Andrew J. Umbles and Eliza or Elizabeth Luna. I am having particular trouble finding information about the Umbles family. I have found several variations of the Umbles name, some of which are Humble, Humbler, Humbles, and even Unobels in one census. I think this is an obvious misreading of the census taker's handwriting.
My mother, Lillian Christine Ball, is the daughter of Thomas Edmond Ball and Margaret VanBeulah (Vannie) Webb (b. 12/19/1885, d. Feb. 1975.) She was the daughter of Zachariah Bailey or Bayles Webb. I have found that Zachariah Webb was born in 1854 and died in Limestone County, Alabama, in June of 1933. I have hit a deadend at that point.
I live in Little Rock, Arkansas, and have limited access to research facilities other than the Internet. Any information, suggestions or other help would be very much appreciated.
