Today's Knotts of Ontario are descended from John Knott, sea captain from Devon, England whose ship landed in Maryland or Virginia in 1619 or 1620. Later Knotts farmed in Manhattan until the American Revolution when, Loyalists, they moved to Canada and again farmed, this time on the site of the Old City Hall in downtown Toronto, and years later, in south-western Ontario. Great Grandfather John A. Knott headed the Winnipeg Fur Company and was political liaison for the federal Liberals in Manitoba and a confidant of Prime Minister Sir Wilfrid Laurier. Grandfather Leonard Lewis Knott was a writer (38 books) and public relations practitioner (started Canada's first large public relations firm) all his life. Leonard Leopold Knott practices public relations and marketing communications in Toronto. Leonard (Len) James Knott is I.T. Manager and Webmaster for CDS and Sedar.com in Toronto.
