Gustav Godfrey and Catherine (Stoll)Mautz came to America from Wuertenberg, Prussia sometime in the mid-1800s. A Mautz with a variation of the Gustav/Godfrey enlisted in the Mexican War at Cincinnati in 1846 and served for 1 year. At present I have not confirmed that this was Gustav. They had two sons, Charles and Gustavus Henry. Charles disappears from records prior to 1900. The precise first and middle names for both father and son are unclear. Various forms appear on records. The senior Mautzes are known to be in Cincinnati in 1853 when Gus/Henry was born. Catherine was a founding member of St. John Lutheran Church, East Liverpool in 1863. Catherine appears in the 1870 and 1880 Census records in Cleveland and dies in E. Liverpool in 1886. G. G. death unknown. Gus/Henry with 1st wife, also appear in the 1880 Cleveland Census. In 1883 Gus/Henry is a widower and marries Mary Magdelana Schroebel in East Liverpool, OH. They remain in east Liverpool until their deaths.
