Norman Dee Hines (son of Daniel Lee Hines and Nancy Tessa Hines) was born January 03, 1910 in Wayne Co. N.C., and died July 17, 2005 in Brennan, TX. He married Avalon Hine, daughter of Otto Arthur Hine and Ella Francis Eisenhower.

During the Depression, with the help of some members of his family, Dee grew tobacco to sell in order to go to Duke University. He went there for two years before he transferred to Tulane University, where he received his medical degree in 1936. After graduating from Tulane, Dee did an internship and followed with a residency in Anesthesiology at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana. He took part in a surgical residency in North Carolina. During this period he married Avalon Hine on August 19, 1937. For three years Dee was the county physician in Ashland, Kentucky, seeing people in an office and delivering babies in the Appalachian Mountains. After Kentucky, Dee did a fellowship in Gynecology at Tulane.
Dee and Avalon moved to Houston in 1941 to join Dr. Herbert Pointer in Occupational Medicine. When WWII broke out, Dee did the physical examinations for the Armed Forces of Houston soldiers. After the War, Dee took over the practice, serving over 62 companies and their families in the next 50 years. Among the companies were Shell Oil, Hughes Tool, Penden Iron and Steel, Continental Airlines and Transcontinental Oil and Gas. On his retirement from 45 years at Hughes, he was surprised by a banquet attended by his wife, children, CEO of Hughes Tool, Chairman and International Chairman of the Board. Dee was a lifetime member of the AMA, TMA and Harris County Medical Society and on several Houston hospital staffs. After 50 years in Houston, Dee and Avalon moved to a farm in Industry, TX. They were members of Christ the King Lutheran Church and later became members of St. Martin's Episcopal Church in Houston. In Industry they attended St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Brenham.
